How do I get Involved ?
You can become involved in many ways:
We are currently recruiting volunteers to spend 1:1 time with children and young people with additional support needs doing activities which help them develop thier confidence and social skills whislt having fun.
Volunteers come from all walks of life - including 18 + with limited childcare experience through to people now retired / semi retired who's life experience can be invaluable to families who need a bit of support and input. You would be required to meet up for 3 - 4 hours once a week or once a fortnight at weekends or Friday afternoons.
Feedback from volunteers who moved on over 2016-17 included :-
"The support offered to volunteers is first class......I would readlily recommend Firsthand to any potential volunteers"
"It was a great escape from studying"
"I really enjoyed my time"
"Fantastic agency, great staff and lovely families"
"Volunteering with Firsthand has been a really positive experience for me. I was placed with a great family and hope I made some kind of positive impact, at the very least we certainly had a lot of fun along the way. The training put in place before the placement was very useful and well organised and will, I'm sure, benefit me in my own personal life. Firsthand provide great support and are always approachable and helpful. If anyone is thinking of volunteering I would strongly urge them to stop thinking about it and go and do it!"
