Established in 1992 Firsthand Lothian aims to increase resiliency and improve well-being of vulnerable, disadvantaged families and families with a child or children with a disability. Delivered in the family home and local community we provide support and regular respite for parents, children and families affected by having a child with a disability from birth to 18 years of age.
We are a charity and a company limited by guarantee. Our Service is registered with the Care Inspectorate and was achieved a Grade 6 - Excellent - for the Quality of our Care and Support at our most recent inspection in March 17 - InspectionReport- March 2017.pdf
We are contracted by the City of Edinburgh Council to deliver Early Years Services in the family home to lone parent families with children under 5 years of age and couples with a child/ren with a disability who is under 5 years of age.
In order to offer a wider range of services that meets the needs of children, young people and families who are vulnerable and / or disadvantaged we are continuing to seek funding from Trusts and Grants and generate income through fundraising activities and individual donations. We are committed to being able to develop and deliver a range of projects which meet the needs of the increasing level of enquiries we receive each week for home based services within Edinburgh and the Lothians.
We are currently in receipt of Trust funding from Better Breaks, Volant & Children in Need which enables us to work with children who have a diagnosed disability within the family home and local community on a regular basis for up 75 hours per family.

Firsthand Lothian strives to maintain an inclusive environment free from discrimination and harrassment. Our purpose is to ensure equitable treatment of applicants, employees, volunteers, children, young people and families.
